B.O.B ' Adventures Of Bobby Ray' Album Cover Analysis

The image you see is my album cover analysis of B.O.B's Album 'Adventures Of Bobby Ray'. When analyzing the music album cover i had to look at certain
things in which would help me understand what a good album cover looks like. By looking at other adverts, it can give me ideas of what i could add on to my digipak.

Katy Perry 'I Kissed A Girl' Album Cover Analysis

The image you see on the left is my album cover analysis of 'Katy Perry's' album, ' I kissed a girl'. When analyzing the album, i had to consider different things, i had to look at the front and back of the album and state what was the same and what was different. Also i had to analyze the colour's , the image on the album and the style of the album altogether. Also we had to look at how Katy is represented on the album and how does the album represent the songs on the album.

Leona Lewis ' Run' Video Music Analysis

The image you see on the left is my Music Video Anaylis for ' Leona Lewis' ' Run'. I had to analyze this video just like i did for Bruno Mars, ' Just the Way You Are'. I had to analyze the costumes, camera angles, the narrative of the video etc. I chose this video as this video did not have many effects as Bruno Mars video did so i thought it would be good to analyze two completely different videos.

Bruno Mars ' Just the way You are' Music Analysis

The picture you see on the left is my music analysis. I had to analyze a music video of my choice and i had to comment on a variety of different things such as The lyrics of the song, was it a narrative song?, was there any intertextual reference, what effects were used, what types of camera shots were used, what did the costumes do to show the image of the singer. I chose to analyze Bruno Mars's song 'Just the way you are' because it has a similar beat to my song, it uses the same instrument and by analyzing this video, it helped me think of what i could put in my video. I took screen shots of the video on YouTube to give me some evidence of what i found in the video. For example the picture you see in the middle of the page which is the drum is an example of an effect that is used in the video. At the time of the music, a drum is playing in the background and the drum is animated to look like he is actually playing the drum and it really makes the video look quite effective. It is a good idea to analyze another music video because by looking at another video, you ca really understand what makes a music video, what to do and what not to do.

Animatics Video

This is my animatics video. I filmed this video to see how my video would look. By watching this video, i could see the outline of my video and see what it would look like and see if the video flowed smoothly. Although, it was not very good drawing, it still helps to give me a rough idea of what the final film will turn out like. I think this animatics timeline was a good idea, as i really think it helped me as if need be i could change bits before i started filming if i didn't like the outcome.

Anamatronics timeline

hese pictures you see are of my anamatronic storyboard. We got A3 pieces of paper and used post-stick notes to draw on the image we was going to use for the certain time. We drew the image and then underneath, we made notes of what was happening in the scene, what camera angles/shots we would use, any special effects we would use and the time length of how long the scene would be. This was very time consuming as you had to make sure everything was included on the timeline. If a time slot was missed out, it would show in the gaps. We then videoed out storyboard timeline and we did this so that we could upload the recording to Adobe Premiere Pro and attach the song to pictures, so we could see what our video would look like. By making this short anamantronic video, we could then see how good or how boring our video would be and see if there was anything that we could do to improve our video. I think this really helped, so we get a rough outline of how good our video will actually be when we have finally filmed it and edited it.

Bad Touch Re-Make

My Edit of Bad Touch

The real Video of Bad Touch

We had to make a re-make of the video 'Bad Touch' By the Bloodhound gang. This video was very challenging to make as we had to learn a whole new skill due to filming and editing. We started this filming just before the summer break and it took us about 3 or 4 lessons to film the first 1minute and 18 seconds. Once we came back from the summer break, we then had to edit our video, all in all this editing took about 4 or 5 lessons to complete. Below are some of the things we had to deal with when filming and editing.

Filming:

When filming, we learnt a lot with the camera. First of all, we learnt how to actually use the camera e.g how to turn on, where all the buttons were and what they meant. Once we got the hang of how to use the camera we were away filming and had a really enjoyable experience. Our first hurdle when filming was, organisation. We had to organise who was going to be what in the video. It didnt take long to discuss who would play what part and we had strong people who were willing to take the main part. We also learnt how to direct the actors when filming. This was important becasue we had to tell the cast when to start and stop. Our second hurdle we had to overcome was sorting out the costumes, props and being in a place where many people would see what we were doing. It was essisential that all the actors had there right costume with them on the day of filming, if they didnt have there costume, we were not able to film but that didnt happen o use when filming. We had props involved in the video, so we had to have them there with us when filming otherwise again we were not able to film. The biggest part of the filming was, making sure the actors were comfortable when walking down to the area of filming as we had to walk through the school, and as they were in monkey outfits, we knew it would attract unwanted attention to the actors. We needed to make sure they were ok with that and they all were. This is something we have to take into considertation when coming to film our actual music video, will our actors be comfortable filming in a public area where they can be seen? During the filming, it was essisential that everyperson had a go at filming, so they could get to grips with how to use a camera and how to get a good steady shot. By also filming, we got to learn what each shot would look like so when we come to film our video, we know what shots we actually want to use. The thing that shocked the class the most, was time management. We did not think it would take as long as we thought it did and also we had to film so many different shots it took a while to film the first minute. We learnt that planning is crucial, without the planning, there is no point filming becasue the video won't have the same outcome as if it was fully planned. This is why for our planning we made a storyboard of the video and what scenes we needed to use and what shots. We learnt that shotlist needs to be made because this list will then help you quickly decide what shot is going in what scene and where you want to use it. It was important that we learnt to keep serious when filming, we could have a giggle during breaks but when filming, it was serious and we had to act professional when filming otherwise the video won't have the full effect. Another big thing i learnt was having patience. I found out that patience is needed becaue otherwise if the filming is rushed, it will show up in the final video. Also we have to work with reliable people, if the people are not reliable, the filming will not get done and will not look professionally done. Another skill i learnt when filming was to choose the right location. Location is a key to filming, if you film in the wrong place, it will show. When we were filming, we filmed in the summer which meant the temperature was hot and we were able to film out for a while but when we film our music video, it will be nearly winter which means it will be cold and we have to take our actors into consideration and they won't want to be filming for 4 hours in the cold, so we have to make sure when filming we look after them and amke sure we bring the best side of them when filming. Teamwork is crucial when filming, if your not a team then it wont work out the way you want it to.

Editing:

When we come to the editing side of the video, this was done after the summer break and we learnt a lot. The first thing i learnt was how to use a new software called Adobe PremirePro. This involved setting up a new project and playing around with the tools to get the hang of it. It took a while to understand the concept of PremirePro but after about an hour i got the hang of it and i was on a role using the program. We had to import out footage into PremirePro and this was quite easy as we only had to press the export button and choose our folder and then the footage was loaded. Another thing i learnt when editing was that, we had to cut footage so it was down to the right length of time so the scene didnt run over or run below the time it should. We cut the image by using the cutting tool. Another thing i learnt to do was to unlink the sound that was on our footage, if we left the sound linked, then it would show on the video and ruin it. So it was important that we always unlinked the sound. Another thing i learnt, was how to use effects in PremiePro, this was done by using motion control, this was the crop the image to the size that we needed the image to be. My biggest challenge when editing the video was the Lip-Syncing, i could never get it lip-syncing at the right time, i was either way to early or just a tad late but after playing around with the program, i eventually got the lip-sync. At some points i was getting very inpatient with this program because it took a lot of time and things had to be dome at the right time. I learnt that, when using PremirePro patience is a big thing, i had many problems with this program and sometimes just wanted to leave the program and not continue but as it was a learning curve for me, i carried on and i think i got a good video producded out of using this program.

I look forward to making my music video as i think this will be another learning curve for me and i think it will be really fun and enjoyable.

My Final Proposal

For my final music video, i have decided to go with the song choice' 1000 Miles' by Vanesse Carlton. I chose this song out of the 3 because i think that this is the best song out of the 3 and i can really mak a story out of the song using the video. I also chose this over ' I Try' and ' Show me Love' becasuse '1000 Miles' is of a steady pace, it is not too fast or it is not too slow. I think i will be able to get a strong video out of this song. Below is the link to the original
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwkej79U3ek
For my video i have had some ideas on what i would like to do.
Locations:
I have thought of some of the locations i would like to use such as a park, a town centre, a house and other places. I have thought of the camera angles that i want to used. I think to make my video different from the real version, most of my video will be shot inside a house.
I wanted to use the theme of the actor singing and walking through different places but the original video already does that, so i am going to have to change my idea. I still would like to use this idea but in my video it will not be throughout the video, i would have the walking bits scattered in the video not all together. Other scenes i would use maybe have the actor sitting in the park, woodland, a shop etc. I could also use a car in the video as a setting to represent the 1000 miles.

Effects:
During the walking scenes, the parts that are together, i want it to look like the actor is jumping from one scene striaght into another. I would like to use special effects, i want to use Black and white scenes not just colourful. I would try to use a edit technique when the screen looks like a puzzle piece. So while the actor is singing, the screen will have different scenes being put together to the main scene. I think this will attract peoples attention and i hope that it will stand out in the video. In some stage of the video i would like to use a flashback, to reminsce some of the 1000 miles so i think i will use this at the end of the video. I would like to use different effects and would like to think the video would look professionally made.

Camera Angles:
I aim to use a range of shots like Long shot, Close-up, Medium Close-Up. In the chrous there is a line about falling into the sky, during this bit of the song in the video i aim to use an aerial shot. During the video, i want to use a an edit where you can speed up time or slow time down. I think this will be effective and it means i can cut to diffeent scenes quite quickly. I tend to have the story flwoing throughout the video. I will start off the video by using a close up and using a direct mode of address shot. The main camera angles i intend to use are mostly close-ups.

Costume and Performers:
For the costumes, i would want the performers to be dressed casually in jeans and a t-shirt. I wouldn't want the performers to look over dressed as it won't fit in with the song. As my song is only sung by one person, i would only need one main performer. I would use other performers maybe when walking down the street but otherwise i would only need to really use one person for the main singing part during the video.

Videos that have influenced me:
Before thinking of my video, i had to look at other videos and adverts that would influence me on making my own video. I looked at a advert which was made by 'Right Move'. This advert influenced me because they have got the editing technique that i would like to use where the acotr jumps scene quickly. This video really gave me a help of how i wanted my video to appear like when people watch it.

Music Videos that have Influenced me :
I also looked at the music video ' I Try' by Macy Grey. I looked at this video to give me an idea because th songs are similar in there own little ways, by looking at Macy Grey, i could use some ideas from there to put in my own video. Some other music videos i have looked at are: Impossible by Shontelle.

This is the link ofor Shontelle- Impossible
This is the link for Bruno Mars- Just the way you are. This video infulenced me becasue i like the animation effect that he has used at the start of his video and i am hoping to use this in my video.

My Initial Music Proposal

I had to choose 3 music tracks that had not been well promoted in the last 10 years. It was a tough choice choosing my 3 tracks because i really didn't know what songs to choose. At last, i came up with 3 songs and these were : '1000 Miles' by Vanessa Carlton, 'Show Me Love' by Robin S and ' I Try' by Macy Grey.
Here are the links for my videos on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwkej79U3ek - 1000 Miles- Vanessa Carlton

I looked at these videos to see what the video was like and how i could interpret myself. After choosing out of the 3, i have decided to go with '1000 Miles' By Vanessa Carlton as the pace is steady, I have a few briefs few locations in mind and i have a rough outline so far of how i want to perform this video. I really look forward to doing my video as i think i will have some really good ideas that will make my video stand out.
Below is my music proposal that i have made for all of my songs above.
